SABAH BLUE ECONOMY
Sabah is strategically located in Southeast Asia, sharing land and maritime borders with seven neighboring countries—Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, China, South Korea, and Japan. Surrounded by three major seas—the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, and the Celebes Sea—Sabah plays a vital role in regional ocean governance and trade connectivity. The Sabah State Government, under the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap, is promoting a data-driven, climate-smart, and community-focused Blue Economy agenda. This aligns with Malaysia’s MADANI Economy, ASEAN’s Blue Economy Framework, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), positioning Sabah as a regional hub for sustainable ocean development in Southeast Asia.

YOUR GATEWAY TO THE OIL PALM BIOMASS INDUSTRY IN SABAH
POIC Lahad Datu is a key industrial development catalyst on the East Coast of Sabah, offering investors a range of opportunities, including in the green economy. As a leading facilitator of the palm oil downstream industry in Sabah, POIC is also tasked with implementing the Sabah Oil Palm Biomass Policy. Given that Japan is a major importer of PKS from Sabah, Expo 2025 Osaka presents an ideal opportunity to specifically promote and engage with potential players in the biomass industry and other interested parties. The focus will be on POIC’s role in implementing the newly approved Sabah Oil Palm Biomass Policy, which complements the National Biomass Policy. The Expo will also provide an opportunity to discuss the implications of the policy for the local biomass industry, the types of oil palm biomass involved, and potential biomass volumes. The recent approval of the Sabah Oil Palm Biomass Policy has already generated interest from Japanese industry players, making the Osaka Expo a timely venue to clarify the policy and highlight the investment opportunities it presents.
